Al began playing piano at age 5, drums at age 11, & finally the instrument of his dreams- bass -at the tender age of 15. After graduating from high school in the small town of Harvey, ND in 1991, he moved to the metropolis of Fargo, ND to attend college at Minnesota State University - Moorhead. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree with a Music Industry emphasis. During his time there, he met and performed with Shannon Curfman, The Keller Brothers, Wallace Hartley & the Titanics, & Jon Langseth- Blues artist Jonny Lang's father. In the summer of 1998, Al moved to Minneapolis to pursue gigging opportunities. Since then he has performed with such artists as: Jonny Lang, Phil Solem (Rembrandts), Michael Bland, Tommy Barbarella, Mike Scott (Prince), Tina & Laura Schileske (Tina & the B-Sides), Shannon Curfman, Wain McFarlain (Ipso Facto), and many others. Recently he has opened for Jimmie Vaughan & John Hiatt. Some of his main influences are: James Jamerson (anything Motown 1962-1970), Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report), Charles Mingus, Ron Carter (Miles Davis), Beach Boys (Carol Kaye & Brian Wilson), Beatles (Paul McCartney---duh!), Sting & of course Chuck Rainey, Anthony Jackson, Abe Laboriel, Will Lee, Marcus Miller & Walter Becker!!!
