Trombone
Jim began playing trombone In the early 70’s
in Edina MN. Throughout school he played in concert and marching
band, jazz bands, orchestras. Moving to Chicago in High school
he also played in the pit orchestras for school musicals and began
playing with several local professionals, performing with the
Waubonsee Junior College Jazz Band and with the funk band Lord
Funk and the Cosmic Resource (no, he’s not making that up).
Jim studied music at the University of North Texas with an emphasis
in performance, improvisation and arranging. There he performed
with the Jazz Lab Bands, Trombone choir, various quartets and
quintets. He was also a featured solist at a convention of the
International Trombone Association. Outisde of school he performed
with numerous big bands and small jazz groups at local clubs and
music establishments as well as with Rodeo Bands, and a summer
tour with the Dave Carlson band (a chicago area Elvis Impersonator
- again, he’s not making this up). He also wrote numberous
arrangements for Big Band and Small Ensembles and graduated in
1981 with a Bachelor of Music Degree from North Texas State.
