DAVID
LARSEN
A.K.A. Steely Dave
Vocalist
David actually started his 20 years in music
as a drummer. (The musicians best friend.) Playing in various
bands since the age of 10, he has been performing live for over
20 years. During his initial stint as a drummer he began singing
back up vocals and eventually wound up singing lead while playing
drums. (He was known for being able to sing Reeling In The Years
while executing the rather difficult feel of the drum part.) As
he grew up he realized that his real talent lay in his voice.
After studying jazz and classical voice for a year, he joined
his first band as a lead singer. He continued to study voice for
the next 5 years. During this time Dave fronted several bands
(40 Thieves, Plow King, Big Daddy Junkpile) and performed with
many others (Wallace Hartley, Rhythm Jones, Shane’s Gang,
Greezy Meal and more). Dave also performed the lead (Jesus) in
two productions of JC Superstar. He has performed along side one
hit wonders The Romantics, many hit wonders the Little River Band.
Dave’s interest in ‘The Steely Band’ project
comes from years of a deep respect and love of their music. He
was first exposed to their music at the age of 14 and has not
stopped listening since. Dave has been lucky enough to see Steely
Dan perform live, in person, on two different occasions. Some
of his other influences, besides Donald Fagan of course, are Chet
Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Rolland Orzabal, Jeff Buckley
and Ben Folds.
